Izzy's magic formula; YOGA and MUSIC; perfect compliments!

Young people experience many of the same physical benefits adults do from practicing yoga and listening to inspiring music. Yoga strengthens them and helps them become more flexible and coordinated while music helps them feel like they have a voice and someone who understands what they are feeling.

Second, yoga for young people also enhances self-awareness. Young people who practice yoga learn early on to tune into their bodies. Likewise, music can often bolster self esteem as young kids, tweens and teens hear lyrics they can identify with.

Third, yoga for young people enhances imagination and empathy. When asked to strike poses from nature, a young person might assume the pose of a snake, or a tree, or a dog. Then they are asked to imagine what it would be like to be those life forms. In this way, young people learn early on to connect with all the life on the planet and realize that similarities far outweigh differences.

Similarly, mindful music encourages young people to have fun and move their bodies in a con-competitive way as they dance to the tunes. Mindful music isn't about being right or wrong, or being best or worst. It is about bringing understanding to one's own life.
